City of Milton Hosts Free CPR Class
The City of Milton will host a CPR class 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at Milton High School. This free hour-long class is open to anyone who wishes to learn these life saving skills: CPR (adult and child,) First Aid, use of AED's and how to rescue a choking victim. The Greater Southeast Affiliate of the American Heart Association recently recognized Milton as a Georgia "Heart Ready City." The designation indicates the city's commitment to community-based programs that improve the chances of a person surviving a cardiac event. Milton is one of only a few cities in the state to receive this designation. Milton's Fire Department is holding this mass community CPR event as part of a "Heart Ready" requirement to teach 500 people CPR annually. Additionally, this event will allow the department to provide a free and potentially life-saving class to all residents. For more information about being a Heart Ready city, please visit the American Heart Association's Web site. Incorporated on Dec. 1, 2006, the City of Milton is a distinctive community that embraces small-town life and heritage while preserving and enhancing the city's rural character. The City of Milton is committed to maintaining the unique quality of life for its constituents while efficiently delivering essential services to residents and businesses in an interactive community environment. 2009 Georgia Property Tax Bill: Homestead Credit
Since 1999, the Georgia General Assembly and Governor have provided a credit on homesteaded property tax bills called the Homeowners Tax Relief Grant (HTRG). This credit resulted in an annual reduction of $150 to $175 to your property tax bill. Due to financial strains on the state budget, the Georgia General Assembly and the Governor did not fund this credit for the 2009 property tax bills. Therefore, the bills currently being received by property owners do not have this credit applied as in past years. The HTRG credit is not expected to be funded again unless state revenues increase significantly. Labels: 2009, georgia, homeowners tax relief grant, homestead exemption, property tax

Forsyth County Schools Top the State in ACT Scores
Forsyth County Schools' student performance on the 2008-2009 ACT ranked number one in Georgia and exceed national scores for all content areas. Additionally, South Forsyth High School was recognized by the Georgia Department of Education as being a school with one of the ten highest composite scores in the State. The ACT is a curriculum-based college entrance exam that is universally accepted by four-year colleges and universities. Unlike the SAT, which is an aptitude test, the ACT measures what a student has learned as a result of high school coursework in English, reading, math, and science. Additionally, FCS had a 17.5% increase in the number of students participating in the ACT, almost twice the number taking the test since 2005. Johns Creek considering property tax millage rate for 2009
JOHNS CREEK, GA—The City of Johns Creek is currently in the process of establishing its 2009 millage rate. Because the city was not incorporated until Dec. 1, 2006, it cannot publish a five-year history of its tax digest, property tax revenues, and millage rate as is normally required. However, the city has published the information that is available for 2007, 2008 and 2009. Each year the Fulton County Board of Tax Assessors is required to review the assessed value for property tax purposes of taxable property in the county. When the trend of prices on properties that have recently sold in the county indicated there has been an increase in the fair market value of any specific property, the Board of Tax Assessors is required by law to re-determine the value of such property and adjust the assessment. This is called a reassessment. As a result of reassessment, the total amount of property tax collected by the city under the current millage rate is expected to decrease by 2 percent. This decrease does not include additional tax revenue generated by new construction and improvements to property. Before the City of Johns Creek sets the final millage rate for 2009, three public hearings will be held to allow the public an opportunity to express their opinions. All concerned citizens are invited to attend and participate in the public hearings, which will be held at Johns Creek City Hall Council Chambers, 12000 Findley Road, Suite 300, at the following dates and times: Monday, Aug. 24, 11:30 a.m. *First Public Hearing Monday, Aug. 24, 6 p.m. *Second Public Hearing Monday, Sept. 14, 7 p.m. *Third Public Hearing
Action to adopt the final millage rate for 2009 is scheduled to take place at the Council meeting on Monday, Sept. 14, which begins at 7 p.m. Labels: fulton county, johns creek, millage rate, property tax, public hearings, tax assessor

Save Energy In Your Home At No Cost
It can be costly to upgrade your insulation, replace windows or buy energy efficient appliances. In the long run, it's worth the money and you should try to set aside money to make these upgrades to your home. Between tax credits and money saved on energy bills, it's worth the investment. However, in these tough economic times, here are some tips that will help you save money without spending any money. - Set thermostats to 78 degrees in summer and 68 degrees in winter.
- Close window coverings in the summer to maintain cooler temperatures.
- Open window coverings in the winter to allow the sun to heat your home.
- Do not block registers and vents with furniture, curtains or rugs.
- Set the temperature on your water heater no higher than 120 degrees.
- Not using a light - Turn it off!
- Unplug small appliances when not in use.
- Keep refrigerators full - it takes more energy to cool an empty fridge.
- Only run dishwashers and clothes washers when full.
- Wash laundry in cold water. If you must wash in warm or hot, always rinse with cold.
- Adjust water level in washing machine if you must wash a smaller load
- Don't let the water run while shaving or brushing your teeth.
- Clean the lint trap of the dryer before each load.
- Don't overload the dryer (I'm guilty of this one!!)
Try these out and see the difference!

Housing and Economic Recovery Act (HERA)
A new government regulation is in effect as of July 30th, 2009. This regulation requires all mortgage lenders and brokers to provide Truth In Lending (TIL) disclosures to borrower's according to a defined schedule. Although the regulation is in the best interest of the borrower, this schedule may alter your borrower's closing date expectation. Lenders and Brokers must issue the initial TIL disclosure at least seven business days before the loan document is signed. Regardless of how the TIL is provided to the borrower, closing documents cannot be signed earlier than seven business days after the initial TIL has been issued. Therefore...loans cannot close until at least seven days have passed from date of application. If there are any changes to the loan parameters that affect the Annual Percentage Rate (APR) on the TIL, the resulting APR must be compared to the latest TIL provided to the borrower. If there is an increase greater than .125% in the APR, the lender must provide a corrected TIL to the applicant. Fees considered to be finance charges that are used in the APR calculation include but are not limited to discount points, lender and broker fees, Life of Loan flood certification coverage, settlement agent or attorney fees. Borrowers must be provided three business days to review this amended TIL prior to loan closing. This means changes will start the 3 day clock again. Here is a real world example... Seven day time frame example: *Monday August 3rd - Signed and dated TIL and GFE received; *Wednesday- August 12th = First available closing date Three day time frame example - when we are out of tolerance and must re-disclose: *Monday August 3rd - Re-disclosures sent to Borrower(s) *Friday August 7th = First available closing date after re-disclosure Contact your mortgage broker or lender for further information. The festival takes place at 3121 Peachtree Parkway in Johns Creek, GA and features carnival rides, inflatables, games, clowns, face painting, a variety of family entertainment, concessions and a fantastic line-up of live entertainment each evening. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children. Weekend VIP passes are also available. The proceeds of the event will be donated to CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) in Forsyth County, and to Serenity Arts Center, a performing arts center and school due to open in January 2009 in the oldest schoolhouse in Forsyth County. Built in the 1920s, the schoolhouse is located on Old Atlanta Road in South Forsyth County. Event organizers are seeking beneficiaries for the school and future community center and theatre. Monday through Thursday, August 3-6, family entertainment is featured daily, along with musical entertainment by local bands and artists: Aug. 3: Ronnie Roule, Aug. 4: Johnny Awesome; Aug. 5: Andrew Black; Aug. 6: Just Cause and Kid Shaleen. Guests will be treated to live music on Friday, August 7, as part of the ‘One World’ theme. An outdoor movie under the stars is the perfect ending to a Saturday, and guests are beckoned to come for ‘Good Food, Good Friends, and a Good Movie.” Sunday, August 9, marks closing day of the Days of Summer Festival, whereby guests are invited to ‘Relax and Recoup’ with good friends and good fun. Daily events include train rides, face painting, spin art, airbrush tattoos, musicians, magicians, acrobats and clowns.
