The Georgia Private School Tax Credit law allows eligible private citizens and corporations to receive tax credits for donations to Georgia Student Scholarship Organizations (SSO’s). Specifically, the new law allows individuals, couples and corporations a 100 percent tax credit for donations to organizations (SSO’s) that grant scholarships to children who want to attend private schools. SSO’s receiving the donations will provide student scholarships to parents that will help cover the cost of a private school education for their children in the state of Georgia.
On May 14th, 2008 Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue signed the bill (a $50,000,000 Corporate and Individual Scholarship Tax Credit program) into law. Georgia has now joined five other states: Arizona, Florida, Iowa, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island – in offering scholarship tax credit programs. Georgia’s program is now the second largest in the country.
